New Mexico is a breathtakingly beautiful state with a diverse population. States like New Mexico often boast colleges that are tribal-run for those who reside on or near the many Native American reservations here, dedicated to furthering the education of that population. In addition, however, New Mexico offers a number of fine public schools as well as a handful of private institutions.
The University of New Mexico boasts a beautiful 600-acre campus in downtown Albuquerque, constructed in the Pueblo-style architecture that is so indicative of the area. A designated Hispanic-serving institution, UNM's 26,000 students are from diverse backgrounds. The main and branch campuses combined offer 93 bachelor's degrees, 68 master's degrees and 37 doctoral programs. The university also offers professional programs in law, medicine, and pharmacy. UNM is continuously touted for excellence in its rural medicine and family medicine programs as well as its clinical law and mechanical engineering programs. The University has branch campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos and Valencia County.
New Mexico State University is also a designated Hispanic-serving university and nearly half its students are minorities. The diversity of the student body makes this doctoral/ research extensive school a fun and interesting place to learn. The 16,000 or so students at the main campus in Las Cruces can choose from 77 bachelor's degrees, 51 master's degrees, and 22 doctorates. The additional campuses in the state university system all offer two-year programs.
The private College of Santa Fe, with campuses in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque, is a school that promotes the creative thinker. Performing arts and other creative fields of study are big here, but the school also offers additional liberal arts programs like business administration, psychology, and conservation studies.
